Cassini recently completed a long working day that lasted many years, discovering important information regarding what awaits the space, one of them is the satellite Titan, that could be discovered thanks to Cassini that this one owns seas of methane.

But what exactly is Titan?

Titan is the largest satellite Saturn as well as being the largest of our solar system, but what makes it interesting the similarity that it has with the planet earth, but to the planet earth of many years ago, when it was still in its early years of existence, so its density is quite high.

The discovery of this giant that has a diameter of 5,150 km, was thanks to the Dutch Christiaan Huygens in 1656, being the first discovered satellite of Saturn and the fifth among other planets.

This planet is characterized by its dense atmosphere as I said above, composed in 97% of nitrogen while the rest is mostly methane, although its atmospheric pressure is 1.5 greater than that of our planet.

In 1997, the mission of launching Cassini into space began, so that it could study everything related to the surface of this giant, reaching the orbit of Saturn in the year 2004. Cassini and its Huygens probe, were thanks to these devices that could get the most information regarding Titan.

Due to the similarity that it has with the planet Earth with respect to its atmosphere, it is speculated that within several years the life in Titán can be optimum, and by multiple factors that will happen within 6000 million years, as the sun rises its temperature and therefore becomes a red giant, it is possible that due to the temperature that it presents in titan and in the quantity of oceans with good stability that are in its surface, are optimal for the generation of life.

Maybe there is already some kind of life in this giant and simply could not get the information at the moment, or perhaps in a very distant future can generate some kind of life... are things that make you think.

Great article! I am running a kids astronomy exhibition at Science in the City Valletta in a few days and my focus will be on Saturn and Titan too.

Excellent, good luck with that.
