Why A Year Only 12 Months? "Why Not 20 or 30 Months?"
Hello buddy. . .
Have you ever wondered why in a year there were only 12 months? Why in a year 20 months or 15 months? Of course, to answer this question we must go back to the history of determining the month in the calendar first.
But we must know, that humans since the old days have been smart and began to think about the development of science. As well as determining the number of months in the calendar. The 12-month stipulation in the calendar is not arbitrary determination but is based on scientific reasons such as astronomical calculations, seasons and political events.
Now I will direct you to the answer to the question above. But before that did you know that before our ancestors set 10 months as a year?
In ancient times, the Romans set out in their calendar that 10 months was a year or 304 days. However, this determination is considered inappropriate because it can not be synchronized with the turn of the season. So the Roman emperor Pompilius added two new moons of January and FebruarySource
It can not be denied that the calendar we are guiding now is also initially guided by the calendar used by the Romans. The Roman calendar was later refined by Roman Emperor Julius Cesar. The calendar is called the Julian calendar.
Then, along with the development of science, the Julian calendar is replaced with the gregorian calendar we use today.
Why is the Julian calendar replaced by Gregorian?
The change is caused because the julian calendar is considered not appropriate because in the calendar system is calculated that one year equals 365.25 days or more 11 minutes from the rotation of the earth.
So this calendar should be adjusted every 128 years. Gregorian is considered more accurate because it describes the rotation of the earth to the sun. In the Gregorian calendar it is mentioned that one year equals 365,2425 days.
