Rotifer Anatomy

in #science7 years ago
  • Rotifers are incased in a shell like structure called the lorica plate. The lorica plate varies among different species. Some are disc like, and others are more tubular. This particular rotifer has a dorsal fin running down its back.

Here is a anatomical drawing I made of a rotifer.

What does a rotifer do? Excellent drawing! What medium did you use?

Rotifers are some of the smallest animals on earth. They are microscopic, and you can find them in nearly all forms of water. They recycle nutrients and eat bacteria, algae, and other micronutrients. They reproduce sexually and asexually depending on the species. You can find them in lakes, ponds, puddles, and even your fish tank.

  • thank you btw! This is a pencil drawing that has been scanned and colored digitally.

That's beautiful and fascinating. I love anatomical drawings, especially if they are done with sensitivity and originality. And even more if they are of unrecognizable weird things!

Thank you so much @stonemaiden I'm glad you like it. I will be posting more microscopic organisms in the future! These things are VERY weird indeed.
