Did you know?? Why does the color of clothes fade when dried?

in #science7 years ago (edited)

Hello my all steemians lover. On this occasion i will share an information about why the clothes color faded when dried.

Its very simple question?? Do you know why the clothes should be turned over when dried.

Yes. Sure...
Sunlight will make the color of our clothes will fade eventually.

Then how the sun can fade the clothes?

We ever had the clothes that fade when often in the sun? This is very reasonable because the sun that shines on the clothes contains ultraviolet radiation (UV).

So What is ultraviolet light?

Ultraviolet (UV) is an electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength from 10 nm to 400 nm, shorter than that of visible light but longer than X-rays. UV radiation constitutes about 10% of the total light output of the Sun, and is thus present in sunlight. Source

What exactly happened?

Color is a sensation that arises in our brain when light with a certain frequency goes into our eyes. For example when we see the yellow color, it is because the light frequency of yellow color that bounced into our eyes.

If the clothes reflect other colored light, then the blueness becomes less sharp. The more colored lights are reflected, the blue color of the shirt becomes faded.

Faded colors tend to lead to white. Because white is a mixture of all colors.

Thus, the faded clothing of the color is that the surface reflects more colors than the original color, which leads to a white color.

Chemically

Why does ultraviolet light cause color to fade?
Because of photodegradation. It is all about the chemical makeup of an object. The technical term for color fading is photodegradation. There are light absorbing color bodies called chromophores that are present in dyes. The color(s) we see are based upon these chemical bonds and the amount of light that is absorbed in a particular wavelength. Source

Clothes can have a certain color because they are given ink. This ink molecule is reflecting light with a certain color only.

For example, clothing is yellow. That is, the yellow ink molecule in the clothes just reflects yellow light and absorbs the color of the color other than it. When the yellow clothing is dried, ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun breaks the chemical bond of the yellow ink, so the ability to reflect the yellow light diminishes.

As a result, the ink begins to reflect light other than yellow, and will eventually lead to a white color, and faded the color of the shirt. ultraviolet light can break the chemical bonds of ink, because ultraviolet is a solar energy that has a very high energy.

Conclusion

From the above discussion we can conclude that is why sunlight can fade our clothes color. To overcome the color of faded clothes, you can begin to set how to dry it.

If you have a lined clothesline, it's better to hang dark-colored clothing on the inside and bright outfits, because dark clothing fades more easily. In order to more durable clothes color, avoid exposure to direct sunlight when drying clothes.
