Get Ready To See More Robots

in #science8 years ago (edited)

Are you worried about seeing more robots in the future? I for one am looking forward to the change and am excited about what the future holds in this regard. But there are many people who see the introduction of robots into the marketplace and they are worried for a number of reasons like job security, and fearing the potential danger of them being used by governments against the population, among other worries. Perhaps we've all seen one too many sci-fi films? Regardless of whether or not the public is ready, the reality is that the robots are here and they are only going to become more prevalent in society.

In many cases these robots can increase our standard of living and help us to experience and enjoy life in a new way. It is being suggested that robots might drastically transform the retail industry in the not too distant future. It is estimated that there will be at least 2.8 million enterprise robots that will be shipped between now and 2021. The majority of these robots are going to be used for industrial purposes and for manufacturing, however we will see many of them in stores, restaurants, and other locations as well.

Target has already tested robots that can take inventory and stock shelves and if they perform efficiently then surely other businesses might move in that direction as well. Target is even looking to have the robots potentially assist customers in the store. And Lowe's and Best Buy are also already looking to do the same. Google and Chipotle are testing drones that will be able to deliver food. Some restaurants have also introduced robot waiters and there are even robot nannies being sold.

The “robot olympics” are expected to be held in Japan in 2020 at the World's Robot Summit. It is scheduled to include exhibits and robot competitions that will involve a myriad of machines. But the specific date and location for the event is still yet to be determined.

This is an industry that is expected to pull-in hundreds of billions of dollars in the next few years. And while we might see them take over a variety of conventional jobs that we are used to seeing humans perform, it doesn't mean that they will take over every job there is within the marketplace.

From driving our cars, cooking our meals, babysitting our kids, or providing personal security and protection, it will be exciting to see the various ways that we learn to use and interact with these machines in the future.
