A Look Back On 2016 For Graphene And The Bright Future Ahead

in #science8 years ago

Graphene is one of the most remarkable substances in the world and 2016 was a pretty good year for it as far as research and production goes etc. Graphene has been found to be helpful with a number of things, like helping to detect cancer cells, it's started to be seen to change color, it's become a superconductor, and has fostered a number of different innovations.

Hundreds of millions of dollars are being funneled into the graphene market space at the moment, trying to discover new ways that this material can be utilized to improve on products and contribute to elevating our standard of living. We might eventually see this material used in everything from medical devices and airplanes to bike helmets and bike tires.

For 2016, the global patent filings for graphene managed to exceed 6,000 and most of those came from the U.S., South Korea, China, and other areas. There are only a handle of businesses in the world that are producing this material and some of those biggest producers of graphene are currently located in China, the UK, and the U.S.

There is still plenty of research left to be done on graphene and we are still quite a way off yet from seeing this material drastically transform many of the products we use. It seems as if the possibilities are endless with graphene and certainly it will prove helpful as far as prompting incredible medical advancements, technological advancements, and more.

They are now finding faster ways to produce graphene as well, and that is going to help to speed-up the research and the progress of starting to see a lot of graphene-laced products in the market. The new production methods that will be able to produce the material much faster, will help to accelerate a graphene revolution all around the world.

Great post. I am amazed at the potential here. One negative may be the race to mining it from the earth ,but the benefits may out weight that cost.

Interesting post, thank you.

Graphene is truly an amazing material.

Steem on,
Mike
