Thanks for this excellent presentation Ura Soul. This is a deeply serious topic that is surfacing more and more at the current time - I suspect because it is becoming widely understood that there is a systematic and pervasive problem of paedophilia thriving in the highest echelons of power and influence at the global level. The initial (and I would add quite proper and understandable) reaction to uncovered paedophilic crime is distress, revulsion, and absolute rage against the perpetrators. But there is a deeper issue here that must be tackled if we are truly to get to grips with this as a species. It strikes me that you touch on this in your summary here when you describe the 'cold-hearted scientific rationalisation' of Kinsey and his team - this is lack of empathy, it is the hallmark of psychopathy. I think when we uncover paedophilia, we are uncovering a particular strand of psychopathy - and perhaps what is worse, this is a flavour of psychopathy that reproduces itself. The serously abused and traumatised child undergoes a psychic splitting for self-protection - in particular, the capacity for feeling, for warm human empathy and love, is devastated by the trauma. Capacity for feeling becomes dangerous and far too painful. But the innate need to grow, to self-repair, is unavoidable - and the devastated personality will find themselves drawn, again and again, to similar conditions of the original wounding. The abused becomes the abuser. The raped child becomes the child rapist. We want to savagely punish the child rapists and torturers, and to do this we ourselves have to ignore the devastated victim underneath the cold-hearted and evil perpetrator we uncover. I think that as a civilisation we are rapidly approaching a decision that will define, as much as any other topic, where we can go next - evolving into something much better than exists now, or falling into something much darker. We have been led, and led ourselves, to the brink of an abyss here. What we do next will define the rest of human history, and this subject lies right at the heart of our predicament.
