Space Weather Daily Update for 24 May, 2018
Sunspots, Flares, USA Tropical Risk, Comet
I haven't done an update in a couple of days due to time issues. However, I did know that there were a couple of bright spots that were active. Currently on the Earth Facing disc, there are 2 bright spots and a 3rd coming on to the disc. We had a C Class solar flare last night. Solar wind was up, but not they are dropping and calming down and this is reflected in the Planetary K-index, which is at lower green levels, but hasn't reached yellow in the past few days. The coronal hole stream should be hitting us in a few days, so there might be more interesting volcanic and earthquake activity before then.
Earthquakes and volcanoes of note
- 5.1 magnitude earthquake near 123 km from Nago, Okinawa, Japan
- 5.0 magnitude earthquake near Khorixas, Kunene, Namibia -- 2 this year. Last one 6 years ago.
- 4.4 magnitude earthquake near Pamandzi, Pamandzi, Mayotte / Madagascar - the Mascarene Plateau is said to have been formed by a volcanoes. I think we might have an awakening of an undersea volcano here. This would correspond with lower sunspot activity and increased earthquake and volcanic activity. The Sun seems to wake up dormant volcanoes when it goes to sleep
- Kīlauea, Hawaii - code red
- Mauna Loa, Hawii - code yellow
- Cleveland, Alaska - code yellow
Space Objects
I haven't checked the database in a couple of days, but it looks like only 1 Near-Earth Object(NEO) was added. The chart is almost showing the end of June NEOs at this point.
