Space Weather Daily Update for 18 May, 2018
Solar Activity, Earthquake, Big Tornado, Gamma Rays
The last 24 hours on the Earth Facing disc show the bright spots on either side. However, they are of no concern. The northern coronal hold is coming around to center disc and a Coronal Mass Ejection popped off the southern pole. The CME won't hit Earth directly, but it will increase the already increasing earthquake risk going on right now. The solar wind is increasing, but the Planetary K-index is still in the steady low green levels.
Earthquakes and volcanoes of note
- 6.2 magnitude earthquake South of the Kermadec Islands, Pacific Ocean
- 4.8 magnitude earthquake Southeast of Easter Island
- 5.1 magnitude earthquake S of Bristol Island, South Sandwich Islands, near Antarctica
- 5.4 magnitude earthquake on the Southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge
- 5.4 magnitude earthquake and 5.2 magnitude earthquake South of Panama
- 5.5 magnitude earthquake near Inarajan Village, Inarajan, Guam
Space Objects
No new Near-Earth Objects(NEO) added in about 8 days, so we probably will get a dozen or so over the weekend.

Understanding Rare Lightening-Triggered Gamma-Ray Flashes
Not rare...pretty common actually. Just haven't been detected until recently. They're detectable only on a tiny foot print and only last a very short time.
