Logic Coin : Part 2 - The Beta Wave

Continuing with the thought experiment initiated from a comment thread with @dragosroua. We learned in Part 1 - The EEG, that an EEG records multiple types of waves. These waves are seperated by their frequency.

BETA WAVE—the beta wave is known in the spectrum as “high frequency low amplitude” and are normally present during a waking state. They allow for logical thought processes, and therefore are instrumental in problem-solving and decision-making activities. The proper amount is needed for finishing difficult work tasks or school work. Usually higher levels of beta waves are affiliated with more anxiety and stress. They can be elevated by stimulants and coffee.

Beta waves are the the fastest waves or ones that appear repeat in the highest frequency. The lower your awareness, the lower the frequency of your brainwaves. It doesn't necessarily mean that the less awake you are, the lower your frequency, because Beta waves can also appear when you are in REM deep sleep. Delta waves show up when you are in deep sleep, but not during dream sleep.

As your consciousness drops off and your brainwaves become less frequent, some believe you become more aware of things beyond the physical. But, that's not what we are looking for, we want to people to be awake and paying attention in order to record their activity. However, not all activity is good activity.

From what I have found, normal Beta Wave cycle is about 15-20 Hz (cycles per second) while the overall Beta Wave spectrum is 12 Hz to 40 Hz (cycles per second). Other sites have the normal range at 18-25 Hz, so the science is a little iffy still. But, we can take all the sites and narrow it down to what is considered the healthy number of cycles per second for our purposes. Also, we must consider other things when getting the cycle count.

Too little of the beta wave presents as poor cognition, ADHD, depression and too prone to daydream

Too much of the beta wave presents as constant adrenaline, inability to relax, over stress and anxieties

What too little and too much refer to is the amplitude (μV or 1/1,000,000 of a volt) or the height of the wave. Beta waves are in the 5-20 Amp (μV) range. From what I have been able to figure out, we probably want to record only the amplitude around 10 Amp (μV) as the other values could be a result of external stimulants or other brain issues. We wouldn't want someone doing damage to themselves trying to stay in active Beta wave form in order to mine Logic Coin.

A perfect Logic Miner would be pushing 10 μV waves at about 18-22 per second.

In summary, we don't want to record too high or too low Beta waves, because the subject isn't in the right state of mind for creating Logic Coin. Anything lower than 15 Hz could be seen as daydreaming or lack of concentration. Anything over 20 Hz would be considered anxiety or stressful. A μV too outside of the 10 range, would indicate some other mental issue. We want our Logic Coin miners to be focused and concentrating on creating logical thoughts, not distracted in anyway.

What about those imperfect miners?

For those miners that aren't very good at keeping focus, there is hope. As mentioned in Part 1, there is an industry that is focused on adjusting brainwaves by introducing sound waves. By sending certain sound waves through both left and right ear, they create another pulsating wave inside of your head. This pulse is created by your brain. By creating the right brainwaves, you can more quickly get into a meditation state that will help increase your concentration levels and focus.

Well, that's what they believe... What Are Beta Brainwaves? Improve Focus and Motivation With Beta Brainwave Entrainment

Obviously, we won't know what is the valid range for a logical thought until we do some testing. And, when we do testing, we need to make a base line reading. As part of Logic Coin, the user would have to be able to create their own baseline before starting, which is what we will explore next.

I think every day this gets more interesting I will do resteem to your first post on this topic. Could keys be generated with the graph of all brain waves? Or, on the other hand, do we all have a pattern so similar that we could not generate keys?
Biometric keys for access to buildings for example.

That is a good question.

I would assume that if you were to look at a particular image/question and provide a thought for it, then a key could be generated from those wave patterns. It would probably work the same as Move Mouse to Generate a Hash Number

I'm not sure if it is needed, but it something to think about. Thanks for bringing it up.

As for a key that would work each time, I don't think that would be possible, since you would have to think exactly the same thought each time without any possible extra stimulus.

An interesting reading material, thank you.

I know a bit, very superficially about this waves and frequency stuff from the Ultramind method by Jose Silva. There they focus on alpha waves since they bridge intuition and logic.

The goal is to act while daydreaming.

Act -> beta
Daydreaming -> alpha

I can tell you that this is completely possible. I tried it myself at a seminars and got some amazing results.

Yes, beta is the way to go for LogicCoin.

I think that the are some personal EEG's on the market. I'll try to dig them out. Last I was checking the price range was ~ $400 ...

Upped and resteemed :)

There is one below $200.
I'll be creating an article about that soon.

In the meantime I was talking to a friend who occasionally does a market research in the area of personal EEG's. I pointed him at Emotiv Insight ($300 headset, $60 USB receiver). He answered that the free version of their software sucks. The pro (ie payable) version is $99 per month! What are they? A telco company with subscriptions or what? Too much!

Important - what I am interested in is a device which can record brain data while a subject is performing a physical exercise. I don't know (yet) if such a device exists. I've read that sweat messes up recording ...

Check the latest post. There are 3 options for consumers.
Emotive sounded good, until I saw the fees for getting the data.
