I had a fascinating interview with Michael Ryan, a Professor of Integrative Biology at the University of Texas. We talked specifically about his book "A Taste for the Beautiful: The Evolution of Attraction"
In the book, he argues that attraction is not "what the brain finds attractive about the real world," but more like "what the brain determines is attractive about the real world."

The emotions associated with this drive are intense for a reason . Sexual attraction & pleasure evolved to give a strong incentive to reproduce, and so those traits became amplified through the generations .
