Mount Sinabung Volcano erupts Feb 19 2018
Mount Sinabung
is a Pleistocene-to-Holocene stratovolcano of andesite and dacite in the Karo plateau of Karo Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia, 40 kilometres (25 mi) from the Lake Toba supervolcano.
"Andesite is typically formed at convergent plate margins but may also occur in other tectonic settings."
"because of the moderate silica content, dacitic magma is quite viscous[2] and therefore prone to explosive eruption."
Tens of thousands of people living near Mount Sinabung had been ordered to leave their homes before it began erupting furiously early on Monday.A warning notice was issued to airlines as the rumbling volcano, one of three currently erupting in Indonesia, continued to unleash hot clouds of ash.The country's disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the hot ash clouds were travelling as far as 16,000 feet southwards.
Indonesia's Mount Sinabung volcano erupted on Monday morning, shooting a spectacular plume of ash billowing 16,400 feet into the atmosphere.
Hot clouds were subsequently seen rolling down the mountain's slopes near Kutarakyat on the island of Sumatra, before drifting three miles south.
JAKARTA, Indonesia – Rumbling Mount Sinabung on the Indonesian island of Sumatra shot billowing columns of ash more than 16,400 feet into the atmosphere and hot clouds down its slopes on Monday.
There were no fatalities or injuries from the morning eruption, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency said.
The volcano, one of three currently erupting in Indonesia, was dormant for four centuries before exploding in 2010, killing two people. Another eruption in 2014 killed 16 people, while seven died in a 2016 eruption.
A major volcanic eruption in Indonesia has propelled ash and rock more than 5,000m (16,400ft) into the sky.
Hot ash clouds rushed down the sides of Mount Sinabung in the aftermath of the eruption on Monday morning and spread for three miles.
"This was the biggest eruption for Sinabung this year," the country's volcanology agency said.
A video by the Indonesian Red Cross showed thick layers of ash covering roads and houses, with one official claiming it was "pitch black" in some villages as visibility plunged to as little as 5m (16ft).
that's sad .May God prevent us all from natural disasters
I've seen all the videos - the impressive look is really, but ghostly when you think of a place where so many people, then I'm scared, you are dangerously close to this, too close.
it is really sad. thanks for showing videos.
A lot of volcanic activity this year. Even sinkholes are showing in europe.
