12,800 years ago Earth struck by disintegrationg comet
Recent research verifies claims made by Randall Carlson and Graham Hancock in the book, "The Magicians of the Gods", that 12,800 years ago, coincidentally the time Plato said Atlantis sunk, the Earth was bombarded by comets.
Professor of Physics & Astronomy Adrian Melott explained in a KU press release: “The hypothesis is that a large comet fragmented and the chunks impacted the Earth, causing this disaster. A number of different chemical signatures — carbon dioxide, nitrate, ammonia and others — all seem to indicate that an astonishing 10 percent of the Earth’s land surface, or about 10 million square kilometers, was consumed by fires.”
Of course, the article nor the research mentions anything about Hancock and Carlson's postulations of this nature in their 2015 publication which earned them the status of pseudo-scientist or "fringe" authors. Nonetheless, this recent research does support the claims by Carlson and Hancock.
