Nice article!
One thing I would point out is that I think it is important to make the distinction that the coloured light we see during an Aurora is the result of an excited atom returning to its unexcited state, thereby releasing a photon of certain wavelength and discrete energy. Energy is not released during the atom's excitation, only during relaxation. This is true of all emission spectra.
