The Science behind the Internet

The Internet

Internet has played an important role in our lives. Internet let's us communicate to the other side of the globe. We usually watch entertaining videos, play music, and connect to other networks and play games. But one thing some other people don't know is where and how the Internet works.

Now you may have been wondering where the Internet came from. The internet data came from a large tower then to a satellite. Which you are half right and half wrong. From the Bytes of your data converted to Bits. Which Bits is the only a language in order machines could communicate.

What are Bits?

Bits are a signal from a machine to a machine. Bits represents 1's and 0's (On and Off). In order a machine to read the message of the other machine. The machine must receive High and Low signal output. Some signals could be an electric signal or a light signal.

Our Internet is Underwater

Now that you know what BITS are, you should also know that everything we do like research and stuff is underwater.

What do you mean underwater?

There are a lot of fiber cables connected to the entire world. But here in the Philippines, they always wonder why our internet has a slow connection, this is why.

Fiber cables underwater is responsible for everything that connects the entire world. Its not just about satellite dishes.

Why do we have small distances of FIber Cables?

Only PLDT owns Fiber Cables here in the Philippines. Globe only rented a few cables from PLDT, which some experts say that the Internet in the Philippines are controlled by PLDT only. If you also may have notice, in other provinces like Danao City. You will have a good signal from Globe and a bad signal from Smart (Pldt).

Where it all started?

The Submarine cables started in the middle of the 18th and 19th century. Submarine cables are being laid under the sea covered by the sands. Thanks to the current that flows under the sea. Fiber cables also has its size, it has a size like a soda can.

1 – Polyethylene (Usually Plastic look or rubber)
2 – Mylar tape (It looks like a fiber feel, with transparency)
3 – Stranded steel wires (Basic Stranded Wires together with the barrier)
4 – Aluminium water barrier (The layer that prevents water from entering)
5 – Polycarbonate (A glass like that is some used from CDs and DVDs)
6 – Copper or aluminium tube (A tube to protect the Petroleum Jelly)
7 – Petroleum jelly (A jelly that covers the Optical Fibers)
8 – Optical fibers (A Medium in which messages are relayed through light)

Imagine getting information from other country to your Computer. The message traveled across the pacific ocean then to the ISP (Internet Service Providers) and lastly to your Computer.

What are your thougts?

Woah never knew that there are existing cables for fibers! Great article chuck!

Kibaw rako ani Mam ding pag 2nd year college nako 😂. Since 1850 pa diay ning mga fiber cables.
