The Science of Camera & Camera Lenses

in #science6 years ago (edited)

Hi Im @chuuuckie by the way. In this video we will be talking about the story behind camera and the science behind it. First off why is there a science from a camera? Well basically you need will be needing light to take a picture and we will be discussing that later on.

Cameras, Photographs and More

Cameras had a great evolution. From manual 35 films to Digital sensors. Which there still be a lot of difference behind the Vintage Cameras and Digital Cameras.

The Science of Camera & Camera Lenses

The first successful photo of a camera was made at the early 1800 invented by the name Nicéphore Niépce. They had this most complicated camera that I can hardly understand on how it works. The camera was called, Camera Obscura it means from a latin word Camera dark room. It literally has be in a dark room so you may take some photo. I wont be explaining further more about this camera but one photo will do the explanation and sure this will let you understand well. But you will understand the principle behind the camera.

Now I am sure that you did not understand what this is. Don't worry we are already getting there.

The science behind the camera

Since we are already using digital single-lens reflex or known as DSLR's not those 35mm films. I will be discussing on how the camera works.

(1) first is we need light to take pictures, of course no light = no photo which we will end up a result of nothing. The light will travel through the lenses and it reflects to the shutter (2). If (2) Opens it known as shutter release, the light travels to the focal-plane shutter (3) which is another shutter to cover the (4) the image sensor.

whats with the 5, 6, 7, & 8?

Well that is easy, without (5) your image will be blurry and so as (6) which would be the Focusing screen. After the light travels through 5 & 6. It will reflect the light into the Pentaprism. Without (7) and also (8) you may cant see it live or unless you make your camera go live directly to the screen so the shutter will be the ones to open it for you and will be directly viewed on the image screen. That is why some live screens closes the shutter for the prism and you may not be able to see the live view from your view finder.

Notice that there are 2 different DSLR's which is Mirrorless and ordinary Dslr's. Mirrorless means it has no Prism. It still has a live view finder and but the light will go directly to your image sensor, and mirrorless comes in handy and lack of battery power. Unlike Big DSLR's contains bulky but a bigger battery power.

Very Important Notes : Shutter Speed, Aperture & ISO

These are the very basic things you should know about the shutter speed, the aperture and the ISO. If you are planning to buy a new dslr for newbies, you also need to know about the functions.

shutter.gif

The shutter speed determines how fast will your shutter goes up and goes down. So Basically if you shoot fast and sports photography you will need to adjust the shutter speed of your camera. I have a 700D camera which I sometimes use 1/1000 seconds for very fast basketball lay ups. But it really depends on the light, if the venues are darker than you expected. Good luck!

aperture.gif

Let us not also forget the Aperture. Aperture only relies on the lens not on the camera, naturally kit lenses (the ones you bought from your dslr) has a 3.5f Aperture to 5.6f Aperture when zoomed. Apertures are also important for landscapes and portraits. The higher the aperture the higher light needs to be gathered by the sensor, it means you have to slow down a little bit on your shutter speed to let all the light gather to the image censor.

ISO.gif

ISO which is very basic. The higher the ISO the more sensitive it is to the light. ISO plays an important part for dark photographs like nightphotography and astrophotography. I do not recommened higher ISO especially 25600 ISO, which is very noisy and some of the pixels are artificially colored. It means the colors of the photo is not true but its lighter.

With this three combinations. I have a simple re-cap for you.

Shutter speed is faster = Smaller Light will be gathered to the sensor but good for fast motion pictures.
Aperture is Lower = Bigger light will be gathered and a bit blurry the background.
ISO is Higher = Creates distortions and creates Grainy photos (not good for editing) that is why you should always fix your ISO and focus adjusting Shutter speed and the aperture of your lens.

Kuya..hindi ko gets😣😣

Maam 😂. Buy a new camera for sure you will understand.

But the most important things you should know about cameras are

  • Shutter release
  • Aperture
  • Iso
  • Camera Lens
  • Key Features of you Body Camera

Kaya nga me Samsung Galaxy haha salamat, pero magastos yan once na-master ang features ng isang camera, nagpapalet na. Trooths???
