COVID19 Vaxx plus Infection Leads to Higher Asthma Risk for Children
A retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX global healthcare database to access the electronic medical records of children between 5 and 18 years of age infected with and/or vaxxed against SARS-2 between January 2021 and December 2022 (n = 152,250) found that vaxxed children that were later infected with SARS-COV-2 had a higher risk of developing new onset asthma (or death) and being prescribed anti-asthma drugs than unvaxxed children who were infected with SARS-COV-2.
‘children who are infected with COVID-19 after being vaccinated against COVID-19 are at a higher risk of developing asthma than children who are infected with COVID-19 who are not vaccinated against COVID-19.’
In cohort 1, 4.7% of infected unvaxxed children developed new onset asthma (or died) within a year. In cohort 2, 8.3% of infected vaxxed children developed new onset asthma (or died) within a year. In cohort 1, 21.1% of infected unvaxxed children were prescribed anti-asthmatic drugs (or died) within a year. In cohort 2, 28.3% of infected vaxxed children were prescribed anti-asthmatic drugs (or died) within a year. The incidence of composite outcomes were 22% in the infected unvaxxed group and 27.5% in the infected vaxxed group. It should be remembered that almost all vaxxed children had been infected by the end of 2022; the end of the observation window for this study. Even as early as February 2022, 75% of children and adolescents had already been infected as evidenced by anti-nucleocapsid antibodies in blood donor data.
Something I missed in my first review of theTriNetX global retrospective cohort study is that this study found a 5.7x higher all cause mortality rate in vaxxed children for combined infected and uninfected groups but buried this finding in supplemental material you have to download as a word document. When I first read this article I falsely assumed that COVID-19 mortality and overall mortality would be so low that there wouldn’t be any significant differences between the vaxxed and unvaxxed cohorts. However, approximately 0.1% children in cohort 1 (unvaxxed prior to index date) suffered either a COVID-19 or non-COVID-19 death compared 0.6% of children in cohort 2 (vaxxed prior to the index date) who suffered a non-COVID-19 death and 0.5% who suffered a COVID-19 death. The authors of this study do not make this nearly 6x increase in all cause mortality among vaxxed children apparent in the body of their article and in fact disingenuously lump in mortality with new onset asthma and prescription of anti-asthmatic drugs and bury the separate mortality analysis in the supplementary material 1 word document buried under the citations.
