Let's learn Astronomy :)

in #science8 years ago

Hi guys, This time I brought you somethings I learnt in school which will help you to understand the beginning of astronomy.

There were so many astronomers in the past who gave different views about the solar system. Let’s see who they are and what they said.

  Thales

He was a Greek scientist who attacked the myth of believing that the stars are gods. He said that they were not gods and that they were fireballs revolving around the earth. And he also said that the earth floats on the ocean like a ship.

 Pythagoras

He said that the earth is a sphere by inventing the Pythagoras theorem.

 Aristotle

He also said that the earth is a sphere. He gave two evidences to prove that:

                 1. if a person were to travel a certain distance from a point in any direction the change of the ascending angle of a star is the same

                 2. the edge of the shadow of the earth falling on the moon during an eclipse being a part of a sphere

The view of Aristotle was that the sun and the other planets revolve around the earth. This is known as The Geo-centric model.

  Aristorcus of Samos

He brought the idea of the Helico-centric model: the earth and the other planets revolving around the sun. but it was not accepted due to less evidence.

Claudius Ptolemaeus

His view was the Geo-centric model. He wrote a book names Almagest including all the knowledge at that time. He indicated the presence of 48 constellations and 47 of them are stil known as their original names.

  Nicolaus Copernicus

He argued that the sun is at the middle and the planets revolve around the sun. And he said that the planets which are close to the sun revolute around the sun faster than the planets which are far away. He showed that mercury takes 2 months while Saturn takes 30 years to revolute around the sun.

 Tycho Brahe

He was able to record about 700 stars and the solar system correctly. He said that the other planets revolve around the sun and all the planets and the sun revolute around the earth once a year.

  Johannes Kepler

 He introduced three laws named as Kepler’s laws;

                          1. All the planets moves in an elliptical orbit which keeps the sun at one focus.

                         2. The planets move faster when they are close to the sun and move slowly ahen they are far away from the sun.

                         3. The length of the year of the planets which are close to the sun are short while the length of the year of the planets which are far away from the sun are long.

Gallelio Galili

Known as the father of Modern Astronomy. He discovered the telescope. But he came to know that a telescope was made by Hanz Liperzi.
