And so many people are trying to find their "true self". I guess this is a lifetime task, because a true self doesn't even exist.
I think there is not just "one true self", it changes over time. Just think about the person you were like 15 years ago. We don't just grow older, we also self-develop considerably according to the people and circumstances that surround us.
