The Adventures of Hamtaro (the hamster) and the levitating gyroscope/

Last time I have introduce the Cat F.D.C. Willard as a co-author in Jack H. Hetherington paper. Click HERE if you are interested.

F.D.C. Willard wasn’t the only pet as scientific journals authors. This time the author that I am going to introduce had its publication, shared with Sir Andre Geim, the Nobel laureate for Physics in 2010 after his work with creating graphene. (Sir Andre Geim was also the Ig-Nobel Prize winner for his work on levitating a frog with magnets on that year).

Apparently, different animals had took part in his work for on levitations, his Geim family pet hamster, a.k.a. H.A.M.S. ter Tisha, the co-author of his paper “Detection of earth rotation with a diamagnetically levitating gyroscope”. This time it was so obvious, “H.A.M.S. ter” is splitting of the word hamster, and Tisha was its real name. The paper was even been cited for 23 times.

H.A.M.S. ter Tisha later on even attempted to apply for PhD at the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands, I can imagine if Sir Andre Geim wrote its reference letter it might actually got in even without a bachelor degree.

This hamster had probably done what most scientists dream of to share authorship with a Nobel prize winner. And took part in the experiments that help Sir Andre Geim won the Ig-Nobel prize.

So you may ask, how did I know about this??

Sir Andre Geim was the invited guest speaker at our university, he talked about Tisha and we were all shocked!!

Makes me wonder should I get a pet, just in case!!!

Very very funny and nice to know! You are for sure one of my most favourite steemians ! :D :D
Best,
mountain.phil28

Thank you for your kind comment, I am just trying my best to bring interesting science to the public~

果然你都有去~many scientists are funny~

@biuiam got you a $0.84 @minnowbooster upgoat, nice!

Maybe he could get an honorary degree.

Kinda sad to know we are less intelligent than a hamster.

Oh yea, forgot about the honorary degree thing haha.

we are!! we just haven't figure out a way to prove animals are smarter than us, jk
