Six months separate us from the first human head transplant
The first human head transplant is expected to take place in December this year and will be performed by Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero.
Canavero has been planning this for 30 years, so he hopes everything will go best.
This transplant will be performed in Russian patient Valery Spiridonov, who suffers from a rare form of spinal muscular atrophy.
The operation will include cooling the time to -15 degrees Celsius and placing that head on a dead brain's body. The spinal cord nerves from the patient and those of the body where the head will be placed are expected to bind with the aid of polyethylene glycol.
The intervention is expected to cost around $ 11 million and will last 36 hours.

Great post. Resteemed.
I have been following this story for some time. It is a totally outrageous story. The medical community, I would say for the most part, finds this unethical. Nonetheless, Canavero has gained some recognition from establishment medical institutions.
My take is:
This procedure has not really been successful in the past. The mice and monkeys that they tried it on only lived a short time after the procedure and we don't know what they experienced personally for obvious reasons. Valery Spridonov is a more adventurous soul than I. I think I would prefer to endure the disease as much as possible and then opt for suicide. A great deal is riding on the outcome of this operation, not only for Valery, but for science, medicine and the rest of humanity.
If this procedure were to succeed and Valery lived for a few years, I don't doubt that some multi-millionaires might do it too.
That's amazing news.

This is great news that could change the way we see transplant. in 10-20 years we could live in a world where we would not suffer from injuries like loosing an arm or having a terrible illness like the one that this russian man has.
By the way if you like technology/gaming/personal development I'm writing about it, you might like it :)
