*Zinc* what is it used for?
Third most developed transition metal by man (after iron and copper), zinc is best known for its good resistance to corrosion, industrial steels with roofing.
History of zinc
Zinc has been known since ancient times, although it was not used in pure form. The insulation of this metal is to the credit of Anton von Swab in 1742, as well as Andreas Marggraf, who succeeded on his side four years later.
Zinc and health:
The main properties of zinc are:
Prevention of aging
Stimulation of immune defenses
Acceleration of healing of wounds and burns
Contribution to the synthesis of pancreatic insulin
Contribution to the elaboration of macromolecules of collagen
Stimulation of sexual functions
Harmonization of the acid-base balance of the body
And the indications that follow are precious:
Premature / accelerated aging of the body
Immune fragility
Infectious diseases
microbial
viral
Prevention in case of epidemics
Infantile diseases
Chronic fatigue
Post-operative convalescence
Fracture consolidation
Diabetes (insulin dependent or not)
Regeneration of connective tissues (eg cartilage)
Male impotence
Dermatoses: acne, eczema, vitiligo, psoriasis.
The richest foods in ZINC:
In general, the zinc contained in animal proteins is better absorbed than that contained in vegetable proteins. This decrease in zinc absorption is due to the presence of phytates (plant fibers), especially in whole grains.
Zinc rich food, for 100gr Zinc content
Oysters 20 mg
Liver and pork 8 mg
Red meat 5 mg
Bread 5 mg
Egg yolk 4 mg
Fish and shellfish 1.5 to 3 mg
Legumes 2 to 5 mg
Dried fruits 2 mg
Milk 0.5 mg
Vegetables 0.5 mg
Physical and mechanical properties:
Zinc is a white metal with a slightly bluish appearance. it is quite dense: density of 7 130kg / m3 (density = 7.13).
Its most remarkable physical property is certainly its volatility; its melting and boiling points are respectively 419 and 906 ° C under normal pressure; at a relatively moderate temperature, it can be obtained in the form of steam.
This property is used for its purification, the condensation of steam provides a very pure metal
Chemical properties:
Oxidation of zinc by oxygen (air behavior):
Zinc is easily oxidized by pure oxygen; combustion is violent if the metal is very divided; it provides an oxide of formula ZnO
Le Zinc dans l'industrie:
we distinguish two alloys of zinc which are essentially obtained by addition of aluminum, they have interesting properties:
1- Zamaks contain about 4% aluminum and less than 1% magnesium or copper; they are particularly suitable for die casting which allows to realize in large series, so at low cost prices, complicated parts. their good mechanical properties make it possible to manufacture thin and light pieces.
The automotive industry is a big consumer of die-cast zamak parts.
2-The kayems:
Zinc alloy and aluminum, contain more copper and magnesium than zamaks; kayems have a great hardness; they make it possible to manufacture stamping and cutting dies and dies. they are also used in the manufacture of molds in the plastics industry.
Nous indiquerons que l'oxyde de zinc est le pigment blanc le plus utilisé en peinture sous le nom de blanc de zinc
