Did you know the coldest place in the universe?

In the photograph we can see the coldest place in the universe which is about 5,000 light years away from the earth. Boomerang Nebula is located in the Centauri Constellation and is considered the coldest stellar object found in the universe until now.

It is a star like our Sun or larger that has become a red giant in the final phase of its life by depleting its hydrogen, and has detached itself from its outer layers evolving towards the planetary nebula phase with a temperature average of -272 ° C, very close to absolute zero (-273.15 ° C), the point at which all thermodynamic movement stops.

For a long time, it was an absolute mystery how this ancient red star could create an environment with surprisingly lower temperatures than the natural of deep space. However, a team of astronomers who used the Atacama Large Millimeter / submillimeter Array (ALMA), believed to have the answer. According to the researchers, the explanation would be in a small neighboring star that would have sunk in the heart of the red giant, expelling most of its matter in the form of powder and ultrafrío gas. This jet expands about 10 times faster than a single star could produce by itself so its temperature has dropped, very close to absolute zero

According to scientists, these conditions, however, will not last long. Even now, Boomerang Nebula is slowly warming. "We see this remarkable object in a very special period, very short in the duration of its life," says Lars-Åke Nyman, an astronomer at the ALMA Observatory in Santiago de Chile

what is natural temperature of universe deep layers? for example if there is no light and also there are not particles to transfer movement through crashing each other there must not be energy, no energy means absolute zero. is not that right? must not space deep layer's temperature be absolute zero?

Hi, thanks for commenting. When I refer to lower temperatures than the natural deep space, I am talking about the temperature of the cosmic background radiation that is a form of electromagnetic radiation remnant of the Big Bang that fills the universe and which in turn has characteristics of radiation of Black body with an approximate temperature of -270.425 ° C.

Actually, you have colder places on Earth. Take the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. It operates at a temperature of about -271 celsius, which is thus colder than what you mentioned :)

Nice comment, it is very interesting to know that those temperatures are reached at CERN. It's good to see you in my post. Sorry to put -270 ° C I had a small error, the temperature reported by the researches of Sahai and Nyman are -272 ° C, used the Swedish sub-meter ESO Telescope of 15 meters in Chile. Regards.

Then space is still winning :)
