DNA may one day be altered to Grow your next iPhone!steemCreated with Sketch.

Who says meat doesn't grow on trees...?

Okay, well perhaps not on trees, but for those of us who have qualms over all the animals slaughtered to supply the delicious meat we so often take for granted, the day will soon be upon us when your hamburger, meatballs, and now, your chicken meat, may be grown in a lab instead, courtesy of Memphis Meats...

And in addition to these advancements, eventually even electronic parts for your smart phone (and who knows, maybe your whole car too?! or is that just called a horse?! I digress...) may be grown in a lab by means of modified DNA...

When Jason Kelly looks at a seed, he sees a factory. With the right ingredients, a seed can manufacture stems, leaves and flowers. His company Ginkgo Bioworks takes it a step further: If you took other living things and tweaked their DNA, what could those factories build?

"It’s manufacturing without factories," Kelly said. "Imagine you made the first iPhone, and it just went off and made copies of itself."

Link: A company in Boston is trying to use biology to make everything from perfume ingredients to, perhaps someday, iPhone screens.

And for those of you who are craving some late Saturday night / early Sunday morning sustenance right about now... Perhaps you're fighting off that overwhelming urge for some delicious tasty meaty BACON? No need to wait for them to grow that in a lab too!

Mushrooms are some of the most misunderstood, and least appreciated "lifeforms" on the planet. If you're up to it, and you happen to have some extra Portobello mushrooms lying around your fridge, stop fighting off that urge and give this 'ole recipe a try!

Bon Appétit my friends!
