Mark Zuckerberg was grilled this week.

 

The tech industry’s engineers and entrepreneurs saw the Facebook hearings this week as more than just the grilling of one of its stars 

 According to the social fellows, the congressional criticism against Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg felt like a referendum on the industry itself and on the social network’s growth-at-any-cost playbook that hundreds of start-ups have sought to emulate over the last decade and that some have turned against.

The fact that has been disclosed to others about how Facebook allowed its users data to be mishandled and the way people’s information is being used.

 “The maturity of social media as a business has evolved to the point that it has become integrated in consumer lives and as a result, creates the opportunity for bad actors to do bad things,” 

In congressional testimony this week, Zuckerberg denied Facebook is a monopoly.

Facebook’s success story spawned a generation of social start-ups that replicated its tactics for measuring user behavior, conducting user research and mining data. Venture capitalists have used that story to change the way young start-ups are measured, evaluated and treated by funders.  

Regulations:“My position is not that there should be no regulation.“I think the real question, as the internet becomes more important in people’s lives, is what is the right regulation, not whether there should be or not.” 

Well!!  All Zuck’s assurances that targeted advertising is “aligned” with Facebook’s “social mission”, the company has no interest in the general public actually knowing and understanding the extent of its ability to track users and amass data profiles of them. Almost every time he mentioned the “control” Facebook gives users over their content 

 Zuckerberg continued his strategy of deflecting questions and downplaying what Facebook does. 

The testimony lasted for two days in which they concluded a large number of public and private social acts..
