This breakthrough in gene therapy is incredibly interesting. Partially reprogramming cells to bring them back to their previous youthfulness, while keeping their current identity; to my surprise, it has the potential to significantly change the way we treat glaucoma in the future. However, as this is a Phase 1 trial, we must consider the safety of these procedures as well as how effective they will be long term. Regardless of these considerations, this progress is very exciting and should be met with both cautious optimism and diligent scientific review.
