About "Salvation" (Netflix Series)

Source

The show centers on the discovery of an asteroid that will impact the Earth in just six months, highlighting the attempts to prevent it and its worldwide ramifications. The show looks at how different individuals and groups of people react to the impending doom.

Here's the Trailer for Season One:

My Thoughts on Season One

I loved the characters in Season One:

  • Darius Tanz reminds me of Elon Musk

  • Grace Barrows is a mix of X-File's Dana Sculley and Madam Secretary's Elizabeth McCord, but sexier - if that's actually possible!

  • Liam Cole is the archetype of the tormented, big-hearted, genius.

  • Harris Edwards is so cool, Ex-Special Force turned enigmatic bureaucrat.

  • Jillian Hayes, the street smart, exotic looking investigative reporter.

  • And many more intriguing people that automatically engage the viewer's imagination.

The show's premise - an upcoming extinction level event in the form of an asteroid - is the impetus forcing everyone to examine their own lives. The existential threat keeps the inevitable mortality of all humans in the forefront of the minds of the main characters.

And the individual ways of coping with that fact is fascinating to watch.

Some quickly accepted it and face it stoically. Others lean towards escapism.

Then there is Darius Tanz - the out-of-the-box thinker with a never-say-die attitude who is in perpetual motion towards solving the problem.

Season Two

Here's the Promo for Season Two:

Could Season Three of "Salvation" (Netflix Series) incorporate the themes of "Rendezvous with Rama" or "Eon" (Classic Sci-Fi novels)?

About "Rendezvous with Rama"

Source

Rendezvous with Rama is a science fiction novel by British writer Arthur C. Clarke first published in 1973.

Set in the 2130s, the story involves a 50-kilometre (31 mi) cylindrical alien starship that enters the Solar System.

The story is told from the point of view of a group of human explorers who intercept the ship in an attempt to unlock its mysteries.

The novel won both the Hugo and Nebula awards upon its release, and is regarded as one of the cornerstones in Clarke's bibliography.

The concept was later extended with several sequels.

About "Eon"

Source

Events in Eon take place in 2005, when the U.S. and U.S.S.R. are on the verge of nuclear war. In that tense political climate, a 290 km asteroid is detected, following an anomalous and very powerful energy burst just outside the solar system.

The asteroid moves into a highly eccentric Near-Earth orbit, and the two nations each try to claim this mysterious object (dubbed "the Stone" by the Americans and "the Potato" by the Soviets, with the Chinese using 鲸, meaning "whale").

Eon was nominated for an Arthur C. Clarke Award in 1987.

Warning: Season Two Spoiler Alert Incoming!

Something very strange happens at the very end of Season Two.

Tanz's vision of "Hummingbirds" leads him to a revelation about the asteroid:

Just like a hummingbird, the asteroid seems to periodically "hover", instead of travel at the rate and speed of normal asteroids.

Finally, at the end of Season Two, Darius alludes to the possibility that the asteroid is actually being controlled by an outside intelligence.

In short: The Asteroid is a Space Ship!

Lastly, how 'bout REAL LIFE?

Check out this discovery in 2017...

"Oumuamua" - Hawaiian: First, Distant Visitor

"The Mysterious Interstellar Object Oumuamua With Harvard's Dr. Avi Loeb"

Conclusion:

I believe that in "Salvation's" Season Three, the asteroid will be shown to be a space vehicle.

Whether it was built by humans ("Eon") or by aliens ("Rendezvous with Rama") and inhabited or abandoned is anyone's guess.

One thing's for sure, I'll be watching it!

In the future, what if "Juno" or "Eunomia" actually prove to be enormous asteroid spacecraft"?

How would you feel?

Shocked?

Frightened?

Excited?

Would love to hear (read) your comments...

Nice review and thanks for all the info worth checking out I think

Nice to see you, my friend.

Namaste, JaiChai

I love sci-fi. Dark matter was the last one I got into, but sadly is no longer here

It's really interesting that people use the keyword Salvation to entice people to watch the series.
I never watched the series but from what you're saying it sounds either a little misleading with the title from a faith standpoint, or, the intriguing thoughts of the author to look at the smartest men for their salvation, while showing that humans, seeking redemption in their own way, struggles with the core of humanity and at the same time looking at life's meaning in their own journey.

Sometimes I do wonder how the watchers of this series think:

Would they just treat this as a really good story line,
Or would this really encourage people to think through their lives or maybe, even better, look at what the talents they have and catalyst small (or big) gestures (movements) just to make life more meaningful?

I actually thought of Viktor Frankl's book while watching this series.

Thanks for your excellent comments.

May you and yours be well and love life today.

Namaste, JaiChai
