Saturn - The Planet With All The Rings

Saturn, the 5th planet in our series, is the 6th planet from the sun. This gas giant is the second largest planet of our solar system, with an average radius approximately 9 times the size of planet Earth.

Being a gas giant, Saturn is not comprised of solid elements, except at the interior, with layers of metallic hydrogen, liquid hydrogen, and liquid helium present as one moves out from the center. The outer layer is comprised of various gases and ammonia crystals, giving Saturn it's peculiar, yellow appearance.

The Cartoon Planet

Saturn may be the most recognized planet -- besides our 'home planet' -- in the social and entertainment industry of Earth. The telltale rings that circle Saturn make it a perfect symbol of space, traveling the cosmos, and the solar system in general for cartoons, hotel and gas station signs, automobile advertisements, and other such light-minded fare of the human condition. Put a few rings around a planet, and the rest appears to be history. Not exactly fair to the other seven planets of our system.

These telltale rings, are composed of ice particles, rocks and rocky debris, and dust. All spinning around the planet at an amazing rate of speed. Which is why we had problems with this planet and our flowering plant photographic collection this week.

Off To The Moon

Attempts to send the MrPeabody study satellite into Saturn's atmosphere proved less than desirable, with the satellite getting the stuffin's knocked out of it by the ice and rock fields orbiting the planet. Though we managed to avoid any major damage to the craft and superstructure, we were forced to divert the photo satellite to Saturn's moon Titan, which ended up being a better idea in the end of things.

The Tantalizing Flowers of Titan

The moon Titan, has an atmosphere of nitrogen, with methane and ethane clouds and nitrogen-rich organic smog. There is actual wind and rain on Titan, and much of the surface resembles the Earth. Rivers, lakes, dunes, hills, and seas of liquid methane and ethane abound. And plants. Flowering plants.

The flower you are seeing in this photo was photographed living at the edge of a methane lake, Methane Lake 541.68-9, and ranges in size from 9 to 23 cm across. We at the S.C.S.S. feel this flower has the appearance of a bundle of french fry's, tied at the base with string. Much like one would see at a Denny's or other such restaurant on Earth that makes attempts at art in their foods presentation. Hence, the common name of the flowering plant, Moon Titan French-Fry Flower.

Future Research

More landings should be attempted upon the moons of Saturn, as getting to the surface of the main planet seems highly problematic, at least with satellites we can afford to build. (Please upvote and resteem). Further study is required, and further sampling of the plant would be ideal, to see if there is any financial value to harvesting these flowers for the burgeoning fast-food industry here on Earth. Thus leading to possible flower-farm colonies on the Moon of Titan.

The Economics department and Home Economics department at The Schteinn College of the Sophisticated Sciences is looking into the registration and patents rulings on space exploration and palatable plants collection and licensing for future reference. Please stay tuned for further developments.

[Official Science Press Credential Here]

A huge shout-out from the freelance Science Reporter's cardboard holler-horn goes out to the amazing @ocrdu for creating this marvy little identification credential for The Schteinn Science Report. Not only is it ultra-cool, but it allows me to poke about into databases and other places I'm probably not supposed to be. Though that IS the point of this on-the-edge, razor-sharp Science reportage.

Now that right there is worthy to be printed out and hung on the wall!

Thanks, glad you like the image. Very expensive to get. I suppose if you do want to print it out and hang it, you might mention to all your flocks of admirers that it is a famous space image. Then again, you might want to keep that on the QT...

I'm thinking a NASA museum somewhere should really have first dibs!

I've sent them the first five installments of these, but still haven't heard back. I'm sure they're just waiting for the whole set...

Congratulations for this beautiful work dear friend @ddschteinn, as always a very good image very creative, thank you very much for this beautiful gift
Have a great day

Thanks so much for the nice compliment and view. Much appreciated. Have a great day as well, though it is waning fast.

Beautiful flowers! Really cute name, "Titan Moon French-Fry Flower". Good comparison, it looks really like french-fry indeed! Interesting information about the Saturn. I especially like its rings, really amazing! Well done!

Thank you. And thank you from the Scientific community as well. Your comment made me realize I had made a grave error in my writings, and without fixing it, I might have been drummed out of the Space Exploration Science Community, once this hits publication. Or at least not taken seriously in the future.

I transposed the name from my notes, and had written the name of the flower as Titan Moon, and this suggests a moon of Titan. Whereas this is a moon of Saturn, called Titan. Hence it is Moon Titan, not Titan Moon, when referring to the french fry flower. Many thanks.

With my pleasure! I think I like both names, really nice and creativity! Yeah! Congratulation in advances for the great scientist of the Space Exploration Science Community! ;)

That image is simply excellent, love the light and shadows. The details are amazing as well. Awesome post @ddschteinn!

Thank you, appreciate the view and kind thoughts. Glad you enjoyed the photo and post as much as I did making it.
