BERBALANG
This monster originates from Cagayan Sulu. They look like gargoyles and also digs up graves like the BAL-BAL to eat the dead. They love eating the insides of the dead body especially the intestines. They have large wings like a bat and their eyes are like cats which glows at night.
There is a story from Cagayan that the Berbalang is a group of people who lives in an island and eats the dead. The locals are very afraid of them and when there is no more dead to eat. They come to the houses and attacks and eat the people instead. You would know they are coming when you hear flapping of wings and a scary moaning sound. But as they come nearer the moaning sound is barely heard. Next thing you know they are behind you already. Their eyes also glows and you may think they are just fireflies but it is death coming to get you.
There are ways to keep you safe. You must find a pearl from a cocoa nut. If you find one you are the only one who is protected. It cannot be used by anyone else. Also you can use swords sprinkled with lime it is a known weapon that can hurt them. Also if you want graves not to be digged up by the Berbalang you must also pour lime juice on the grave to protect it.
