ScaredyCatGuide to Finding a Good Business Idea

Many people on steemit have an entrepreneurial mindset. This is seen through many initiatives done directly on steemit, such as @steemsports and @steempowertwins as well as third party projects such as ladder.net and busy.org.

The above are just a couple of the many examples out there that are making headway and look to be good business ideas.

So the question is - how can you see if a business idea is any good?

Test The Idea

The bottomline is you want to produce something that people want or that fills a need. Finding something you are passionate about is great, but we need to ensure that passion translates into interest from others if it's to be considered a business venture.

How does one test their business idea?

In today's tech advanced world we are actually quite spoiled with ways to do this. We are able to throw ideas out there for no or low cost and see what sticks. This can be used when deciding on a brand name for a specific product or service or even to help decide what product or service to provide on a whole.

Example

Let's say you want to start a business selling widgets and there are three different types of widgets you can sell.

However, you are not sure which of the widgets has any real demand and you are not sure what you want to call your business.

Well, this is where places like steemit and dare I even say facebook come in real handy.

A good next step is to pick a couple business names, a widget to go with them and put them out there.

Say for instance:

  • WidgetWorld. com where you sell Widget A
  • FindYourWidget. com where you also sell Widget A

And of course you can try as many combinations of them as you like.

You can then promote these many places like:

  • Putting them on PeerHub.com
  • Doing small Facebook marketing campaigns to
  • Even emailing a list of leads
  • And of course posting about it on Steemit can't hurt either!

Feedback

What we get from this is easy inexpensive feedback. If people - like, comment, buy, upvote (or whatever the action of interest is for a given site) enough that there is some real interest than you know what name and product to go with.

Conclusion

This is not an end all be all answer. It is just an efficient way to gauge interest in a business idea before really putting your head down and getting knee deep in it because as anyone trying to build a business knows - it's a whole lot of work!
