RE: Don't Get Tricked, Bro: How to Recognize a Cult
Hehe. Every religion started as a cult. Most were even called such in history. Yet at some point in history they reach a critical mass or something and they start calling them a religion rather than a cult.
I like the article. :)
EDIT: Really like the Cult to Religion chart. :)
In a sense, that's true. But eastern religions by and large are not virally structured in the way Abrahamic religions are, they utilize different methods of propagation.
For the most part this is true. Yet do you know that in a place with predominantly Eastern religions it is not unusual for even Taoists and Buddhists to argue and have conflicts with each other. It seems very contrary to their nature, but it still happens. I've read up on it and spoke to people from the area. I first encountered it reading The Wandering Taoist by Deng Ming-Dao which is actually a pretty interesting book.
The methods of propagation ARE very different though you are correct. I do prefer the LEAD BY EXAMPLE method over CONVERT THEM AND SAVE THEM method.
For clarification since you likely have not read any of my blogs about religion. I am very anti-Abrahamic religions. I think they are one of the most destructive forces on the planet disguised by feel good intentions.
I don't endorse any written word. I look about and use reason. I share my ideas as ideas only and try to make sure that I say they are my ideas and speculation and are likely wrong. I also listen to other people's ideas the same way. I don't believe anything because it was written in a book. I do have people I trust, but I don't blindly trust anyone... including myself. :)
Oh sure, I didn't assume otherwise. I've followed you now. I'll review what you've written, I'm always looking for ideas on how to reverse the mess we're in.
