We all have to raise awareness of scams where ever they may appear is be it in steemit or generally over the web. In a decentralized world we are all responsible for our own on line safety and as a result scams will only get worst as there are still many ways to make mistakes and fall foul of these scammers no matter what precautions we take to ensure we are safe. Decentralisation unfortunately comes with a price!

No, have not been a victim of these scams or any scam yet, but just to hear about them is enough to make you paranoid!
You are right...am surprise that you have not seen any request on your wallet from resteem or upvote...they sent almost to all wallets ...great that you are careful
I paid for one of those "I will resteem you" offers when I first got here in June or July - I can't remember the actual numbers, but I got less than 50% of what I paid back in votes. I will not be doing it again. I have 1500 following me already and I get little action from any of them - so why would someone else's resteem help me?
I'm not in chats and don't plan to go. I constantly hear of troubles coming out of them - not just this type of problem, but also people begging for votes and men being horndogs over there. I used steemit chat for promo for about two weeks and got spam out of it so I gave up. Discord? Can't make head nor tails of it anyway so I got out of it after a few brief moment of looking.
I'm just trying to work steemit and keep the blinders on and staying away from scams as best I can. The scams are part of a long list of why I have yet to invite any of my contacts to join this crazy place even though - in general - I feel positive about being here myself.
Good point @fitinfun however no need to worry because Steemit is the best out there and far better than Facebook due to the value you will get here so feel free to invite your contacts to join this amazing platform.

I promote on my other social media outlets by sharing cool posts I upvote as well as my own. I came here because good steemit results started showing up in my searches and for the alexa ranking for my content. Hopefully my connections will get that same result and want to be here. Direct steemit discussion and promo does not work well so far as I have tried it. I'll re-visit, but I have enough trouble creating and publishing my own posts to feel very confident about getting others to come in based on my not-that-great example.
