One of the most precious Hebrew names for God is Jehovah-jireh: "The Lord will provide" (see Genesis 22.14). God's provision for those who trust in Him is so characteristic of their nature that it is one of their names.

He never doubts most of God's attributes (for example, his holiness, his love, his goodness, his power, his justice and his glory), but he may sometimes wonder if he will provide for his needs. However, this is exactly what Jesus warned his disciples in Matthew 6.25-34 when he told them not to worry about what they would eat, drink or wear.

Worries and deeds in the world, often to the point of exhaustion, are to ensure that you have enough wealth. But that is unnecessary because our heavenly Father knows our needs and promises to provide for us every day.

If you know that God is the owner of everything in the world, controls all of your assets and can provide for you as your child, then there is no need to rely on luxury, be tempted by materialism or frantically book for the future. Your daily life as a Christian does not have to revolve around those concerns, but to be happy with what you have (1 Timothy 6: 6-8; Hebrews 13: 5).

You do not have to own everything or be in control of all circumstances to have enough money for your basic needs. Instead, he can put aside all worry and anxiety about his needs and rejoice to receive all that God has given him to invest in his kingdom (Matthew 6.31-34).

How can you witness the fact that God can and wants to provide?
