Devotional life: "A new birth"

The new birth has nothing to do with the natural birth of a person. The new birth is an experience in the supernatural, which has to do directly with the Holy Spirit working on the person who has confessed Christ as savior.

The New Testament narrates a man's confusion about the new birth and Jesus himself as a teacher teaches him what it means to be born again.

Nicodemus said to him: How can a man be born when he is old? Can you enter your mother's womb a second time and be born? Jesus replied: Verily, verily, I say to you, he who is not born of water and the Spirit cannot enter into the kingdom of God (John 3: 4-5).

The birth in the water has to do with repentance. This was what John the Baptist preached in the desert. John baptized to repent, but said that behind him would come someone who would baptize with Spirit and fire, he was referring to Jesus.

With repentance, a new order of life begins in the believer in Christ Jesus. Three important things happen in this new order:

  • The new birth, which is associated with repentance and a new relationship with God (Jn 14, 6).
  • With the new birth there is a new perspective of approach and visualization of the kingdom of God (Jn 3.3). The believer is given an understanding of the Word of God and the work and wonders of the Holy Spirit are experienced: a living and fervent faith.
  • With the new birth you enter a new sphere, where the order of the new kingdom of God comes true in the believer (2 Cor. 5:17).

Finally, the new birth is nothing more than being "saved." It is a very relevant experience that takes you to the supernatural dimension of life and prepares us to enter the glorious kingdom of God.
