Oh God, Send us the Rain
The year 2019 is beginning with promises of fruitfulness. A few days ago, we had the first rain in the month of January, a rare occurrence in our part of the world - Southern Nigeria. It was such a heavy downpour that some poorly drained area got flooded. The incidence of the rain has revived the hope of farmers as they would have to engage the fields earlier. Moreover, the pastures are getting greener and this promises a great deal of blossom, fruitfulness and harvest.
The rain is one of the ways God shows love to His people. Here is what the Lord says in Zechariah 10: 1:
Ask the LORD for rain in the spring, for he makes the storm clouds. And he will send showers of rain so every field becomes a lush pasture - (NLT)
If only we can ask God for the rain, He will send it to shower the land and bring forth pastures to us.
When there is no rain
Famine is synonymous with lack of rain. No fruitfulness can be visible except it be watered. God in Genesis, after creating the universe caused water to pass through the garden to enable the plants and trees to sprout, since the rain had not yet fallen (Gen 2: 4-6). There are great nutrients in water as deposited by God for the good of man.
It is however notable that all of God's creation emanated from the waters: the land, seas, and firmament. God even deposits great minerals and wealth-giving treasures in waters (Gen. 2: 10-14). As water is of great essence to man and is applicable in almost of man's endeavour, the physical and spiritual significance of "rain" signifying the “water from heaven” cannot be over emphasized.
God's Word as the Rain
In Isaiah 55: 10, scriptures metaphors God's word as the rain which is of essence to give seed to the sower and bread to the eater. In essence, rain is meant to cause fruitfulness, parts of which will serve as seed for the next planting season and some as food for the farmer.
Also, in Deuteronomy 32:2, we see God saying this:
Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.
Prayer
- Oh Lord, open my heaven s and send your rain of blessings.
- Oh Lord, help me to sit and be watered by your word for my supernatural blossoming.

Thank you for this edifying post @Evegrace. God's love for His people is unmatched. If only we can ask as recorded in Matthew 7: 7, he will send the rain to water our lives. Visit @Reliquary today and engage those Bible chapters.
