Solarguy’s Solution to School Gun Crimes. Inspired by Stuff I Saw Online.
We hear the call to arm teachers, more security and what not but really the solution is so simple you will be rushing to congress.
First let’s consider why arming teachers is a bad idea.
How many times when you were a student and the teacher blamed the wrong student for talking during reading time? How many times did the teacher punish the wrong student? Heck, even I as a teacher, yes by profession I am a teacher in China, threw chalk a naughty student only to miss and hit the person beside them.
Do we really need mistakes like this to happen?
Ok, so let’s say we did arm them. One unlucky day there is a shooter in the school killing anyone in their sights. The police are on scene, students are scrambling, gun shots can be heard throughout the hallways from outside. A trained teacher who has been authorized to carry in class is trying to be a hero and is actively looking for the shooter in the school. The swat team barges and shoots anyone with a gun. These things happen quickly and cops are often shoot first and ask later when the lives of children are at stake. The police radio simply stated active shooter in a school, a description might not have been given as things are pretty chaotic.
School boards in the USA have mostly been cutting budgets. How many stories or teachers have your heard or talked to say they spend their own money on classroom supplies? The government doesn’t even want to buy them paper or update the text books to save money and suddenly they can afford to arm and train teachers. Really?
The Solution
Close all the schools. That’s right if the kids aren’t in large groups then there can’t be mass shootings. There won’t be hallways for murderers to stalk with guns shooting anyone they see. The government will save tons of money, because you know, they will still keep collecting a large part of those taxes. They can give tax breaks to weapons manufacturers to appease their NRA donors.
All students will be home schooled. At home there will be need for a teacher with a gun. Students wouldn’t have to lose friends to senseless crimes because home school kids don’t have many friends. Kids wouldn’t be bullied or subjected to group humiliation and therefore ending the chance of one kid losing his mind and going gun crazy.
Simple right?

Clearly, more guns is not the solution to reducing guns related deaths. Are we now saying a teacher never lost their marbles and went crazy? Of course not, except the harm they can do without a gun is much less than with a gun, plus the additional risk to the teacher themselves. What about students who will now see teachers as enemy combatants, fair game for a shoot-out...
Home schooling is a nice idea, but what if your parents are uneducated, and cant afford a tutor, how does that work?
The simple answer to removing guns related deaths, is to significantly restrict the availability of guns. You could still have shooting clubs (if thats your thing) but you must leave your weapons there, farmers can have a special licence that allows them to use shot-guns only (sorry you dont need a machine-gun and 5,000 rounds of ammo farmer Barleymow). Once you do this, anyone carrying a gun in public, is immediately able to be identified as a risk by everyone else. You can also stricly limit the amount of ammunition and the types available.
However you need the political will-power to do so...
i agree. in canada, where I'm from, guns are not a right because you live, were born a breathing creature with a thumb. You need to earn the right. Like pass tests and have a clean record and people that actually check your background. Tons of guns in canada per capita, not like america but were up there. Canada just does a good job on who has such weapons. Plus other factors I;m sure.

I agree to that also. Anyone who has a gun or any sort of weapon can kill anyone, whether that's intentional or not. I mean we never know when bad things could happen but if teachers will have guns in school then it could lead to more worst problem. Teachers should be a role model to their students. So they should act as appropriate as they should. Yet it's still not nice for teachers to throw chalk to their students lol no matter how naughty they are. Dealing with stubborn students is part of the package being a teacher. " Patience is always the key " :-)
I just remember this movie called "Gifted" about a genius child being home schooled and later her uncle felt she needs to go to a real school and enjoy being a kid . I really like that movie. Her first day in school was really funny :-)

I only threw chalk a couple times and those students deserved it. haha. they knew it too. it's not like i did on a whim, sadly i missed almost every time.
And home schooling is such a bad thing provided the child gets some sort of social life where they can experience things that give them usable life skills.

But what about the real reason for schools? Training kids to be future prison inmates?
And what about the respect for the criminal in chief? Without tons of stories told about how great this great person is, and how great the people before him were, then how will they learn?
What about children getting accustomed to starting and stopping work at the sound of the bell?
These are the reason why school exists. Your plan completely avoids this.

I agree really. I think school holds the kids who want to Excell back anyways. Homeschooling is the way to go. In defense of arming teachers though, more often than not the situation would be / is done by the time swat moves into a school. So I would say by the time swat came in the teacher will have ended the situation. Who knows though. It is true you don't want to be holding a gun when swat comes into the school ready to shoot anyone with a gun.
Yea, I'm sure if the teacher is prepared they might have a better chance of ending the situation before the Swat arrives. I remember sneaking into my teachers does and taking back my toys they confiscated while they were out of the classroom. Hope they keep theirs closer.

cops get lot of training and still the kill innocent people.
@solarguy if there are no guns policies then such incidents can be avoided. The primary concern of the school authority should be to protect children from any harm. And this can only be provided when no one is allowed to carry a gun with them. Trained teacher not a precautionary step. It is better to try to keep a bad thing from happening than it is to fix the bad thing once it has happened.
how will insurance companies make money? Who will the NRA give huge donations to? More importantly if politicains are getting finacial rewards for from from rights groups who will they turn to next? Tobacco is out the door.
