A Modest Proposal
Why do women need high-heel shoes? They're a dangerous, impractical relic of the past. Thousands of women suffer serious injury due to heels, and the injury rate seems to be on the rise. These shoes promote blatant objectification of women, and heels are the footwear of choice for strippers and prostitutes, so if you wear heels, it's fair to assume you're engaged in illegal, or at least immoral, activity no matter what. In fact, who needs so many shoes anyway? It's time for ownership limits, heel height restrictions, and an outright ban on stiletto heels. It's simply a matter of public health and safety that we cannot afford to ignore.
These are suicide shoes, not serious footwear! Image credit
What? You say the government doesn't belong in your closet, and it's your choice what to wear? Is it an immoral act of aggression to turn you into a criminal or impose extra costs upon you through arbitrary legislation? Would you argue that associating you with unsavory activities because of a superficial similarity is an unjust accusation? Do you think regulation of any garments is a slippery slope toward total government control over the fashion industry? Is this proposal a fundamental invasion of your natural rights and liberties?
Remember this every time you call for any government bans or regulations over anything. If there is no victim, there is no crime. Nobody likes busybody control freaks dictating their lives, but few recognize when they are being the busybody control freak themselves. And if you agree with the conclusion of my initial paragraph, perhaps it's time for you to engage in some serious self-examination.

The title is a reference to this 1729 satirical pamphlet by Jonathan Swift and Puritanical attitudes about fashion. That said, modesty isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just not my job to dictate how you dress yourself.
I asked my sister the same thing and she says its more of a power move in the business industry. People know wearing heels are uncomfortable but if you can show you can retain class, put yourself in a stressful situation and still excel at your task then you'll be looked upon as a strong woman and a model for other women. She typically gets a lot of praise for doing so and she gets noticed because she's short. LOL
Clearly she has Stockholm Syndrome and has accepted the patriarchy.
:D
Assault shoes don't belong on our streets!
(So wear them to my bedroom.)
Lulz! I don't think the kind of moralistic busybody I was parodying would respond well to such advances.
But wouldn't it be hilarious to record the reaction?
many years ago, they were banned from wear in aircraft because of the loading of the body being felt on the very small area of the hj heel. The loading, from memory was in the multi tons per square inch, and the thickness of the Aluminium flooring to cope with this loading was out of this world.
It completely makes sense to forbid heels under those circumstances. Heels might have a surface of 1/4 sq. in. or so, and even the impact of a 100 lb. woman's step adds force to the calculation. And not all women weigh only 100 lbs...
Look at her; strutting about like she owns herself.
Oh, the horror! The scandal!
I was not warned of the disturbing feet photo in one of your links.. eek!!
I used to wear high heels in high school. I’ve since grown up and have traded in for a more practical lifestyle. I know that wasn’t the whole point of this post, but I just wanted to chime in :)
I wouldn't advise my niece to wear such shoes when she gets older, but I wouldn't forbid it either. Well, unless we are hiking in the woods or the like.
All clothes aught to be forbidden. Just do as they do in British schools, same clothes for everyone paid by the state. Then restrict number of haircuts to 4 official styles. All problems solved.
