Meaning of the name Satan.

in #satan7 years ago

The meaning of Satan is "an adversary, one who resists." Satan occurs eighteen times in the Old Testament, fourteen of those occurrences being in Job 1-2, the others in 1 Chronicles 21:1 and Zechariah 3:1-2. There is some dispute as to whether it should be taken as a proper name or a title. In Job and Zechariah the definite article precedes the noun (lit., "the satan" or "the accuser"). Thus some argue it should be a title, while in 1 Chronicles (no article) it should be a proper name. In the Old Testament, Satan is not an evil principle opposing God. In Job "the Satan" is Job’s adversary. He acts as one of God's subordinates/courtiers to follow his directives.

In the New Testament, Satan is an adversary to Christ and His followers.

I've made a few writings on how he is only doing his job. People always fall to blaming everything on Satan and Demons instead of taking responsibility for themselves.

Very true, it seems to be easy for many to blame Satan at times.

That entity, which many have called by numerous names, essentially is just our "adversary." Aiding in testing us and getting us to try to fall for the bait, and to find if we are worthy or not.
