How to write a letter to Santa

One of the first letters many children will ever write will be to the attention of Kristopher Kringle at the North Pole. We more affectionately refer to him as Santa Claus. A child’s letter to Santa is especially important because it embodies the greatest gift of childhood, imagination.

Despite a falling devotion to homework, many kids are excited about the idea of writing to Santa. He’s the friend that brings them lots of toys once year and every year. A good letter to Santa should include some introductory information, pleasantries for the big guy, and of course a few requests.

Santa has quite the list but he can always use a reminder. When you begin writing to Santa, tell him a little about yourself. After all it’s been a whole year since the last time he heard from you. How did last year’s gifts work out? How has school been going? Are you taking care of your puppy? Santa doesn’t necessarily enjoy just being the guy who hands out gifts. It’s much more fun to give gifts to your friends. Being friends with Santa means sharing how things are going in your life.

It’s also important to check on Santa. Ask him how he’s doing. We should all keep an eye on his health as he tends to be a little overweight. It’s also pretty cold where he’s from so we want to make sure he’s staying warm leading up to the big night. A sick Santa could easily miss a few houses if he’s not feeling his best. While he might not miss your house, you don’t want anyone else having a sad Christmas on account of Santa not feeling well. Also, ask about his family. He’s isolated in the North Pole so his elves, wife, and reindeer mean a lot to him.

Lastly, tell him what you want. It’s important not to be greedy in this step. Santa has a lot of people to see, however Santa also wants to know what you would like. This is your shot, this is where you point out the things you’ve been eyeing all year. While you’re writing to Santa use all of the rules you’ve learned about letter writing. Santa might not have trouble reading poorly written letters but he really appreciates those who take a little extra time to get it just right.

Merry Christmas!!
