The Two eyed girl

A mother had three daughters, the eldest had one eye which was located in her forehead, the second child had two eyes and the youngest had three eyes, one at the middle and each on the other side of her face.

Their mum died few weeks after the birth of the third child and they were left all by themselves to provide of their needs.

The second child who was two eyed happened to be different from the other two and they despised her for that. Usually she was giving the left over of food to eat after returning home from shepherding the only goat their mum left as a possession. This made her sad to have been maltreated by her only sisters.

One day, after her sisters denied her some food, she went into the woods and cried bitterly . an old woman appeared to her , "why are you crying" ? she asked. "My sisters denied me food to eat" she told the old woman.
"Don't worry, I will teach you a rhyme, whenever you are hungry just recite it and when the goat bleat food will be provided" the old woman told her. "Here is the rhyme"

‘Bleat, goat, bleat.
And bring me lots
to eat!’

And you will have enough to eat. And when you are satisfied , said this ryhme

‘Bleat, goat, bleat.
I’ve had so much
to eat!’

And the Rest will vanish.

Then the old woman vanish. Two eyed girl couldn't wait to try it as she recited the first line.

Bleat, goat, bleat.
And bring me lots
to eat!’

The goat bleat and a table appeared with lot of food. She ate till her satisfaction and recited the other words

Bleat, goat, bleat.
And bring me lots
to eat!’

And the food , vanished. Two eyed girl was happy to have found a way to get food for herself. She went home that evening and did not eat the left over kept for her by her sisters.

Her sisters woke up the next morning to see the left over food untouched. To their amazement, " she must have gotten food to eat somewhere" one eyed girl said to three eyed girl. And they decided to find out.

One eyed girl followed her sister to the bush the next morning. With her sister present Two eyed girl couldn't use the rhyme, she returned home hungry and ate the left over her sister usually give her for dinner.

The next day, two eyed girl went into the woods and cried, seeing that her sisters now monitor her movement. Then again the old woman appeared to her. " Why are you crying" she asked "my sisters have been watching me and I can't use the spell." "Don't worry the old woman said, I will teach you a song to put your one eye sister to sleep whenever you want to eat" sing this song to her

‘Is your eye
awake?
Is your eye
asleep?
Is your eye
awake?
Is your eye
asleep?’

And she did exactly. Her one eye sister fell asleep and she recited the rhyme to the goat.

Bleat, goat, bleat.
And bring me lots
to eat!’

And the goat bleat . Table and several foods appeared and she ate. When she was filled , she recited the rhyme

Bleat, goat, bleat.
I’ve had so much
to eat!’

And the food vanished.

Two eyed girl returned home and didn't eat the left over, once again. "What did she eat" three eyed girl asked. "I don't know, I fell asleep". The one eyed sister said. The next morning three eyed girl followed her to the bush and she sang the song.

‘Is your eye
awake?
Is your eye
asleep?
Is your eye
awake?
Is your eye
asleep?’

Only one of her eyes closed . The other were opened but she pretended to be asleep. Then two eyed girl went and recited the rhyme to the goat. And it brought food and table. And when she was satisfied she recited the other rhyme and the food vanished. Three eyed girl later discovered she had been using the goat to get some food but she didn't hear which ryhme she spoke.

The night, three eyed girl and her sister the one eye girl made planned to stop her communication with the goat and they decided to sell it out.

Two eyed went into the woods and cried bitterly. And again the old woman appeared to her. "Why are you crying" she asked "my sister sold the goat out, I recited the song but she didn't fall asleep but pretended to".
"Stupid girl, the rhyme was made for just your one eyed sister, but I can help you out" she gave her a seed and instructed her to plant it and whenever she wants to eat from it, she should sing the song.

‘Apple hanging on
the tree,
I am Two-Eyes.
Come to me!’

Two eyed girl, did as instructed, and the seed grew up immediately and yielded fruit of golden apples. Her sisters woke up the next morning surprised to see a grown tree with ripe apples. When they were still talking on it, they saw from afar a knight full of armor and they immediately hide their sister under a basket.

The knight drew near and saw the golden apples, he wanted some and he made a promise to fulfill the wish of anyone who get him some.

Three eyed girl and one eyed girl tried all they could but none fell. They climbed to plug some but the tree kept growing taller. Then the two eyed girl pushed the basket and came out.

"Who's this"? The knight asked.
She's our sister , but we are ashamed to bring her out because she looks different from us.

'i can help you get some" the two eyed said and she sang the song

‘Apple hanging on
the tree,
I am Two-Eyes.
Come to me!’

Immediately , an apple dropped on the Knight's hand. "What do you want me to do for you"? He asked

" take me away from this horrid and hateful sisters"

Three eyed and one eyed noticed they had something in common. The knight and their sister both have two eyes.

The knight granted her wish and took her to his castle. Since they have something in common , people believed they lived happily ever after .

Three eyed girl and one eyed girl, left on their own kept singing the song

‘Apple hanging on
the tree,
I am Two-Eyes.
Come to me!’

But no apple dropped, and they never figured out why.
