A Tale Once Forgotten!

in #sankofa6 years ago

I bring to your ears, a tale so old but not forgetten. One so popular that it has been talked about by many and has been spun into plays, novels, movies and even cartoons. What tale do I speak of you ask? It is none but the tale of "The Flying Dutchman".

As with all tales it's best I start from the very beginning, from the point where it all happened. So grab a blanket and get comfy as I narrate to you this tale of epic proportion.

The Story

There once was a Captain named Hendrick van der Decker who lived in Amsterdam, Holland. He was the captain of a ship named The Flying Dutchman, it is rumored that the captain preferred to be on the seas than on land.

It was the year 1641 and the famous captain Hendrick set out on his most famous voyage yet, Himself and his faithful crew set out on a voyage from the shores of Amsterdam, to the Far East Indies in order to purchase tradable goods like silk, spices, dyes etc.

While on their way to the East Indies, they were met with numerous storms and turbulent waters but they managed to sail through and got to their destination. While in the Indies they worked to repair their battered ship as well as load up the goods bought.

So while on their way back to Amsterdam. Captain Hendricks and his crew sailed through The Cape Of Good Hope. It was here at the cape that they came upon a sudden gale and the wind was so fierce that it was ripping apart the ship.

So the crew beckoned on their captain to turn back but he listened to them not, some say he was drunk others say he was at the brink of madness. But what is clear is that the good captain sailed on into the storm, and him and his crew were never seen again.

Atleast so it was until years later, when there was a siting of the ghostly ship of The Flying Dutchman and after that another, and another after that. This gave rise to the tale and it is also believed that those that see this ghostly ship are doomed to a drastic fate also, just like Captain Hendricks and his crew.
