These are the real problems facing the people of my community and many others!
It was weeks ago when I spoke with @bleepcoin about sanitation and how we could use technology to try solving its related problems. The condition I found this in just made my heart bleed out.
It is not as though this was my first time of seeing such a mess. In fact, I lived and grown with such conditions but now it does not just seem right!
After years of studying disease distribution and patterns, I have come to understand that sanitation is the biggest player!

This is neither a dump site nor was it a place of convenience for people in the colonial era, this is the only dependable and nearly available toilet facility in an extremely sorry stage for a particular group of people within the locality I hail from in our parts of the country. Just take a look at its proximity to the houses.
The only question on my mind is, how do we help people in this kind of situation? Well, one could argue that the people are responsible for their own condition but that is if that person knows not about life around here!
These are people who pay taxes and vote people into power who then just worry about anything but themselves.
Unfortunately this does not qualify to make the big news. It seems our media houses are more worried about the lunch a 'celebrity' eats than to report on real time issues facing real human beings who work hard to feed the nation.
Just look at this? How do we even begin to address problems of this nature?
Let us consider the daring health needs of the Children in the area, the uncompromising situation of the disabled in our societies and the lack of available options for the sick, who's place of convenience cannot be any other place than this life threatening facility which under normal circumstances should have been closed down for peculiar reasons.
NB: Suggestions or ideas as to how we can have this problem duly fixed for the compelling reasons will be highly appreciated and considered. Thanks so much.

This is really appalling to look at and it is a worry of public health importance.
No matter how much work you do, if the people are not sensitized, they will go back to doing this even after it is cleaned up.
So I think the first approach should be sensitization. Invite public health workers to come speak and sensitize them on the importance of keeping their environment clean. Afterwards, you can now talking about cleaning it.
This is on going. It is very true that the people need the sensitization but the bigger problems is the facilities to help them manage their waste!

Major cause of health issues in Ghana, cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, and malaria which are the the health issues often recorded at hospitals. You might wonder if they were sensitized or not and the government is not putting much effort in waste management.

That is the truth, the facilities need to be there to help them implement any lessons learned via sensitization...this is a huge issue facing Ghana and we need to use advocacy !

And these are my suggestions;
Education - This is to prevent this from ever happening again after it is solved.
I would suggest a complete scrape of the upper layer of the soil and a replacement brought in. The scrape should depend on how deep this mess go.
Shrubs should be planted to cover up the soil once again to prevent erosion and further spread of these non-biodegradable plastics
I hope this would to an extent.
