Virginia Beach 2018

Hello here a short about the sandsculpting contest in Birginia Beach ! We have being participating here since 2010, it is a wonderful event! The last 7 years they put up a giant tent so we can sculpt without rain or windy weather!!

Usually we take a theme matching the water life! But this year we decide to make something high and with many cut troughs! (The give you loads of points for that) so we start with a triangle shaped box to fill with sand! And go from there.


After the first form was halfway compacted we changed the idea in something better! What if we put in a flex form right in the middle, so we create a void! This can be interesting! So we continued.

After the compaction we find out that we now have loads of sand left over! (Next year we build bigger forms) and we need a new idea! What to make now... at least 3 big cut troughs, and one that can let me out!

Later I made an arch on the half of that cut trough, so that nobody figure out how we did it! (It was a tide fit and I went in there twice!!

In the inside I made loads of faces as symbol for inhabitants of the world that need to be embraced!
I think we succeeded very wel on a technical level (sculptural I am not sure)
