Test: Samsung Gear Sport
Samsung has added a new smart watch model to its offer. The new model is designed for athletes and sports-oriented users, which is a rather ambitious undertaking, because sports watches are highly specialized and the target group is extremely demanding. Samsung has prepared well and introduced an elegant watch, which is equipped with a large number of options and features and is based on the Tizen platform that has reached up to 3.0 versions.
Samsung made the Gear Sport smaller and lighter than the Gear S3, which may be the most important change with which we will open this text. Simply, the fact that it is more elegant and smaller makes it far more meaningful for use for sports purposes, and it also places it in a "unisex" category, which is very important. As far as we are concerned, it may still be in dimension and shape that Samsung has given a slight advantage to the male population, but it is definitely that it will be a member of the gentle pole that Gear Sport will suit.
*Another important thing to note is immediately the fact that this model unlike the Gear S3 model is not designed to respond to calls, so Samsung wants to split the sports model from classical smart clocks, but we can say that this was somewhat expected.
Also, while Gear Sport is designed as a smart watch for active users who are looking for additional fitness options, this watch can not compete with specialized companies such as Suunto, Garmin, etc. On the other hand, they can not offer the functionality of a smart watch, so Gear Sport can be seen as a kind of golden environment between the smart and sport clock functionality, which can not compete with both categories when it comes to the extreme territory.
Gear Sport comes in a small package that contains everything you might need. There is a short manual, filled for charging, a power adapter with a microUSB connector, and although it was not in our case, the retail package also includes an additional belt in a smaller dimension for users with a smaller wrist. Very practical and crisp.
The 5V / 0.5A charger connects to the base via a microUSB connector and a full clock magnetically. When set to a base, the display rotates, so the clock may have a sort of alarm clock function.
The design of the Samsung Gear Sport is simple but very effective designed and we do not say lightly. The lines are reduced, but even with a plain rubber sports belt a watch attracts attention. The biggest reason for this is a stainless steel case that has a brilliant "gunmetal gray" finish. Combined with simple design, the watch really attracts attention and with a more elegant bracelet, it's hard for anyone to assume that it's a sports watch.
