What bathing my Samoyed looks like

Solomon was 12 weeks old here, we got him used to having a bath from day one.

Some Samoyed owners will argue that Samoyeds don't need a bath due to their double coat, but I honestly believe that comes down to laziness.

It takes around an hour and a half from getting your Samoyed in the bath to getting them dry again, so you can understand why people may not be motivated to do it.

We don't always do around his head as this pretty much stays clean and can be brushed out.

Its just his tail and underneath that can hold a lot of sand if he has been down the beach. Usually the sand just brushes out, but if its mixed with water its difficult to get rid of it all just using a brush.

He wasn't too sure what to make of this bath being his first time, but we gave him a bone to chew on while we dried him with the hair dryer and that seemed to keep him occupied.

After doing this process once every couple of weeks we invested in an air blaster we got off ebay.

It over halves the time it takes to dry Solomon.

He actually likes it, he gets all silly like he does when he is outside on a windy day.

Solomon is 4 1/2 years old now, and we bath him when he needs it, so no set time.

It tends to be when he has been in the sea and then run on to the sand for a roll around (once every 3 months).

You CANNOT brush the smell of the sea out, so he will need a bath. We have made the mistake before of not bathing him and just brushing it out, but you leave the house and come back and it smells of wet dog.

People regularly compliment us on how our house doesn't smell of 'dog', and this is because we bath him

Our Samoyed has plenty of allergies as it is, but all Samoyeds have sensitive skin, so we use a Pet Head shampoo that is not going to cause any itching.

We can have him bathed and dried within 45 mins now if one of us brushes while the other dries him.

He goes to the groomers every other month, as we found a college (Brinsbury College) that take him for the day and let the students practice their grooming on him. Its a lot cheaper than all the local groomers.
