Steemit Sunday Sailing - SSS - A day late!

(Sorry for missing Sunday.....catching up after a busy weekend!)

In Canada, it is said there are 2 seasons. Summer and Tough Sleddin' (Skidoo reference you may have to look up.) Makes it tough on local sailors because the season/races don't start until May 9th, and you can BET we have many layers and foulies on. So, to keep warm in the long cold months, we rely on boat porn on the internet......hence the sunday sailing piece in the off season.

In this edition, we will go through the crew as emails are flying around coordinating the season and building up excitement.

Skipper

In his natural kamikaze headband, the dick-with-the-stick can be found in the back of the boat barking orders, making fun of the fore-deck guy, and doing whatever the hell he wants because it is his boat afterall.![DSC00657.jpg]

Middle Guy

Not a very glorious title but better than The Hole or whatever other derogatory title you could come up with. He is the liaison to every other position on the J-27 and generally spends his time cleaning up our messes, or helping us avoid them.

Foredeck Guy

AKA the little guy on the pointy end. In charge of launching and jibing the chute and getting yelled at to SKIRT the jib. The acrobat sits on the rail with me in the upwind and absorbs abuse in the downwind.

The Trimmer

Generally, I spend my time saying "gottit gottit gottit!" pulling ropes, staring at tell-tales, and trying to look cool. This is about 15 pounds ago before I started winter training BJJ and have been heckled for taking off weight that was good for rail-meat to have to flatten the boat.

The Crew

It all comes together in a well-oiled, beer chugging, mark rounding, masterpiece that makes for a lot of fun. When the wind is down, we resort more to the beer drinking and jokes telling and the occasional deck frog (odorous honking nose that usually reverberates off the deck.)

Until summer:

are whimsical shirts mandatory? its seems like it :D

BTW, great photo of the 'middle guy' - really like the lighting in it.

As always, Your post was resteemed by @knot

Yes! You have reminded me that I probably need to post about "ugly is fast" for a bit of context and humour.

Quite the outdoorsman there Zeke! :)

Haha just adventure addict.....though I do love the outdoors. Lots of camping in the summer with the family as well. The wilderness in Canada is fantastic and the great lakes are mini oceans meant to be sailed.

Curious, if somebody wanted to get into sailing very small scale, what would be a minimum investment to get started you think, $$$ wise?

My brother in law wants to get into sailing someday, looking forward to him getting into it and I get to just come along on the boat he someday gets :D

Cheapest way is to find someone that owns a boat and needs crew. That's what I did.

Depends on which boat they want, what they want to do with it and where. Other than that, you would have to ask a boat owner at one the those places to be sure.

Haha you know whenever I hear Canada... The one person that hits my head is barney stinson with Robin scherbatsky.

Nice sailing shots!

Upvoted, from one of your sailing pals : )
