Never the same: 10 awesome sky's

in #sailing5 years ago (edited)

The sky is such an integral part in our life's that we usually dont pay much attention to, unless it is raining. One of the major problems is that we cant see enough of it. Most of the time houses block the view to our sky's. I like to take that opportunity to all of you to show you some of the sky's only sailors can see. :)

Ameland - An island at night

This shot was taken in the middle of the night on Ameland. The moon was shining, clouds were streaming rapidly fast and there was just the wind whispering - magical moments!.

Waddenzee / Netherlands

Sometimes we get extremely lucky. We have the best weather: the sun is shining, the wind blowing and in the distance it is raining. Sights like this look amazing and remind us that we are just a very small part of our earth.

Set sail - sunset is approaching

There are moments in life you won't forget. Like this one. It was actually my second sail on this ship and we had the pleasure to sail into the sunset. This is close to Terschelling (an Island in the Netherlands) and the light and clouds just formed this moment of magic.

God rays

Another phenomenon I deeply love. The cloud coverage is quite big but there are these gaps in the clouds that let the light pass. I am always amazed what nature gives us for free!

Den Oever - an island became land

The Dutch are not only crazy regarding sailing, they are "crazy" if it is about dams too! In 1932 they finished a dam that is 32 km in length. As it so happend they build it though an island which became land because of this. The harbor there is not the prettiest, nor the fanciest but the nature behind the dam is great. Take a look at this sunset!

Catching a storm

In this shot you see a storm at night while full moon. The bright spot is actually a whole load of rain. As rain falls at night and you have some light it forms this bright patches.

Den Oever sunset

This was one of the greatest sunsets we had in the past years. Everything was in that violet tones and the wind blew like crazy. I was quite glad my camera did not flew away :D. I really like that leading line in the photo, do you?

Panorama photos

What we actually never see in a city are the clouds in their entirety since the view is so obfuscated. I am sure you have seen these round circles in the weather forecast. They do exist in real life as well and you can see them in great detail at sea. I always loved to see these cloud formations.

Texel puffy clouds

My most favorite clouds and most likely yours too! I took this panorama on Texel (another island in the Netherlands) on a lovely summer day. Warm temperatures, a little breeze and clouds like this make an great day!

More common but still not normal

These clouds are a bit more common but we dont see them every day. Usually they do carry some rain but never let them go - which we like a lot :)
