My Review of Sacred 3 - Video Game

in #sacred37 years ago (edited)

Not quite the game I expected, but still quite fun. I admit I haven't played the first 2 Sacred's, which is probably the reason why I am giving this game a thumbs up. From what I hear the first 2 were open world Diablo like Hack and slash games. In Sacred 3, they changed the game to be more of an arcade hack and slash style, similar to Gauntlet.

Some of the game design doesn't make much sense to me. Its an arcade style game, where as you kill the enemy, they will drop HP and action type regen potions? The action is quite outlandish for an RPG styled game, where you get skills that make you jump across the screen and butt flop on the enemy to kill them. Instead of an open world styled game like Torchlight or Diablo, you are put into in an on the rails type short mission, usually ending with a boss of some kind to finish the mission. The game does allow for Co-op play, which seems easy enough to get a game, but you must finish your first mission (The hardest one I found so far in the game), before it will allow you to play in Co-op, which may leave some players behind.

Unlike other games, where there are loot drops, or you earn gold in the game to spend on gear, you pick up gold, but at the end of the round, all that gold disappears (???) no idea why, and you get a seemingly static amount of gold for finishing the mission. You can then use that gold given to you in the end to upgrade your skills and weapons, but there are no skill trees or really anything in terms of different equipment to save for. And the skill and equipment upgrades are limited to level unlocks.

The characters in the game also dish out tons of badly voice acted one liners, similar to Duke Nukem, but not as good. I have played 2 male characters so far, and both are constantly hitting on the female "narrator" in the game, with really cheesy pickup lines, topped with super bad voice acting that kills the humour.

All the bad being said. The game does have a AAA title type polish to it, and plays well. Just don't expect the next Diablo/Torchlight/Van Helsing.
