3-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari
The 3-day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari adventure enables you to explore Volcanoes National Park Rwanda for gorilla trekking. Volcanoes National Park is located in Northwestern Rwanda about a 3-hour drive from Kigali Rwanda's capital city. The park is part of the Virunga conservation area along with Uganda's Mgahinga Gorilla Park and Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Of all the mountain gorilla national parks in the region, Volcanoes National Park is the most accessible. You can visit the park for a couple of days but the 3-day tour is most convenient. Below is the detailed tour.
##Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Depending on your preference you can start this day with a Kigali city tour visiting the genocide memorial, local markets, and other places of interest. The Kigali genocide memorial is among the listed inscribed World Heritage Sites in Rwanda and here you get to learn about what happened in the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsis. After the experiences in Kigali, you can then drive to Volcanoes National Park arriving in the evening.
##Gorilla Trekking & Cultural Visit
After breakfast at your lodge, head out for a briefing at the National Park headquarters. Here you are told about the do's and don'ts of gorilla trekking for your safety and that of the gorillas. After the briefing, you are then led to the forested mountains hiking to the gorillas. Here you get to enjoy the beautiful scenery and hike for up to 4 hours until you get to the mountain gorillas. On getting to them you are allowed to be in their presence for an hour learning more about these rare primates. This mountain gorilla encounter is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is truly remarkable and unforgettable.
##Golden Monkey Trekking & Departure
The golden monkey trekking adventure is equally rewarding as you hike to the light bamboo forests and get to meet golden monkeys which are also rare primates. Golden Monkeys are endemic to the Virunga Massif and Volcanoes National is one of the best places to see them. Hike in the forest until you meet them and return by mid-day. You will have a lunch break and later be driven back to Kigali.
