A few of the questions that I get asked by people who know nothing of commercial driving are: how do you take showers etc. when you're on the road? And where do you sleep, do you get a motel all the time? As a commercial driver there are options available. When you first start driving, you can get a professional driver card from Pilot/Flying J, Loves, etc. after you buy so much fuel,i.e. 49+ gallons or so at one of the major truckstops, you get a free shower as a professional driver. If you do not have enough points on your card, you can also purchase a shower. While this does work (I have used it several times)through the course of driving, I have also discovered,I can pay for the showers and still save money if I'm buying fuel at Murphy USA or some of the smaller truckstops. another option that works well, is if you start buying fuel at the first of the month at the Pilot/Flying J, after so many gallons you get free showers for the rest of the month. So while you are paying more for the fuel at the truck stop, you did get the showers for the rest of the month saving you the money you would be paying for that, while fueling the rest of the month at the cheaper stations.
If your intent is to drive professionally for a living, you can set your truck up with a mattress etc. so that you always have a place to sleep. While this isn't the most comfortable, it is doable. Most of the RV transport companies, also have a don't ask don't tell policy on sleeping inside the unit. So as long as you're hooked up to a unit you can take a sleeping bag and a pillow , throw it on the couch, and have you a decently comfortable bed.
